Divorce Coping Tip for 6th September 2016

When the time comes to draw up a list of your jointly owned assets, don’t miss a thing.

Be sure to include all vehicles, property, investments and substantial objects of art and furniture. It can make for very interesting reading and it’s best pawed over with a soothing cup of camomile tea to hand.

The next step is the hardest; deciding what you want to keep from the relationship and what you are happy for your ex to take from the relationship. That’s all well and good if the list is even and you both agree. What happens if you don’t?

Well, your lawyers will rub their hands together and roll up their sleeves in preparation for the ensuing bicker that decides who gets what.

Once you reach this stage, the only souls that profit are the legal teams, they’ll get paid whichever way the dividing lines are drawn.

If you haven’t entered this arena yet, this is the perfect time to ask yourself honestly, what you want, what you need and what you are prepared to fight for and indeed, are any of those commodities really worth the blood, sweat and tears that you’re about to let flow?
