UK: Thousands May Have Been Short Changed in their Divorce

Expert actuaries should be employed when counting a pension’s value, but many legal representatives use the nominal ‘cash equivalent transfer value’ (CETV) which does not take into account any add-on benefits.

In one case a woman who had been married for 30 years was awarded £190,000 – half the estimated value of her pilot husband’s pension.

But the incorrect CETV figure had been used and the pension was actually worth £1.5million.
